The Poddar Group (TPG), are one of India's oldest business houses going back 15 generations to 1690. The family hails from Ramgarh, South of Jaipur, in the Shekhavati region of Rajasthan.The family were historically bankers (Poddar means banker).
The family firm, Tarachand Ghanshyandas, in addition to being partners with Burma Shell for the Indian subcontinent, was one of the five biggest private sector companies in the Indian Subcontinent in 1900.

Retail finance - TPG Chairman, Mr. Dipak Poddar, Co Promoted Bajaj Auto Finance Limited "BAFL" in 1986, with his 1st cousin, Mr. Rahul Bajaj (Chairman Bajaj Auto Group). Mr. Poddar is Managing Director of BAFL since inception.
Automobile Tyre manufacturing - Group Company "MTL" was set up in 1997, as a large domestic manufacturer of 2 wheeler, 3 wheeler and light commercial vehicle, tyre's and tubes.
Real Estate Development - TPG has 24 years of real estate development experience in India and has done mid-size residential projects in Mumbai, Pune and Calcutta, on a SPV to SPV basis.
This business has recently been consolidated into Wearology Ltd.
The Real Estate business now focuses on environmentally compliant projects in the residential, industrial and hospitality sectors, on a pan-India basis.
TPG has joint ventures and/or platform agreements with various international funds for the verticals in which it is interested.
Textiles - TPG has over 30 years of experience in textile manufacturing business. TPG company Wearology Ltd, is a Public listed company on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Wearology designs and manufacturers 100% organic cotton textiles and apparel in India and China.
Telecom Infrastructure - TPG has recently entered the high growth area of telecom tower infrastructure in partnership with Midson Management of Australia.
